|
Dad Grunn’s Wonderment Theatre is a new monthly series presented on the second Friday and (usually) Saturday of every month. Check the events calendar for more details. Shows You Missed:
The Key A mysterious, Italian puppeteer (who creates puppets out of garbage) leads several characters to encounter something revealing about their lives, while they retrieve their lost luggage from a train station's "Lost and Found." When they open their suitcases they are surprised by its contents-for some it is a memory from their childhood, for others an answer to a prayer. This show incorporates commedia, puppetry, mime and a character driven plot that entrances audiences of all ages!
Adults: $15
Urbano’s Circus Inspired by Alexander Calder's “Circus”, “Il Circo di Urbano”(Urbano’s Circus) is where art meets theatre. You will be amazed and entertained by these trash-constructed puppets as they perform their death-defying and suspenseful acts. The show features Ivan the Iron-Clad Stomach, Clyde the Fearless Clown, and Boris the Elastic Acrobat.

What is it? A book club for theatre lovers. Twice a month we will meet to read and discuss plays as they are meant to be experienced - read aloud. Who is the event for? Anyone with a desire to read, hear or discuss plays. No performance background required! Who reads? Anyone is welcome to listen and to read aloud. We encourage all participants to acquire a copy of the play script, which is absolutely necessary if you are reading one of the parts. Looking to order a script? You can find most of them through Anthology New and Used Books New books arrive in just a few days. Used books take around 10 days or so. Please allow for ordering times. What are you reading? We'd like to dedicate most of our time to works yet to be produced in the Wyoming Valley - both classical and contemporary. Every few months a new series will begin, starting with Censorship and Contemporary Theatre. Is it a performance? No. But it will be a structured reading including local artists and members of the community followed by discussion and debate. Can I suggest a play to be read? Wonderful! Contact Jennifer (570-328-8658) and we will add it to the list. If you have the resources (scripts, interested participants/readers) to read the work aloud and would like to set an alternate date or time, let us know. We are willing to serve as hosts and encourage other attendees or lead a post-reading discussion. Community Theatre Readings As an extension of our reading series, we'd like to welcome local playwrights and community theatres to bring plays the group that they would like to hear aloud before making any season selections for the future. It's an opportunity to hear and discuss the work with outside members of the community before the rehearsal process begins. We will aim to provide new readers and a new audience to not only hear and discuss these readings, but hopefully continue to take part in or support community arts. We hope that by providing this service community theatres will not only gain and broader audience, but expand the breadth and content of the work they present. September - November 2009 - An Exploration of Censorship & Modern Theatre With themes ranging from religion and politics to rebellion and sex, this reading series will begin to explore the controversy, artistic significance and censorship history of a series of contemporary "banned" plays. |
