Poetry and Creative Writing Workshops

As part of a small press, our workshop leaders and editors are dedicated to improving the level of work being written and submitted to literary publications. In doing so, we hope to contribute to the world of letters an overall body of work that is memorable. Workshops increase the creative energy levels of the writer and the workshop leader and instill a sense of discipline that is a necessary part of creating art. We hold workshops in playwriting, ekphrastic writing, memoir, flash fiction, poetry, essays and visual poetry. Check the calendar for details and upcoming events.

Visual Art Workshops

Regular workshops in altered pages, altered books and mail art are part of our calendar of events. Gallery events are followed with a workshop led by the exhibiting artist when possible. Check the calendar for details and upcoming events.

Theatre

As soon as the platform stage is built, we’ll start staging small productions of short plays, and running a regular staged reading series. Check back for details, or mail us with your interest to help!

Scholarship Fund for Workshops

We've opened a studio for creativity in an area filled with passionate, overworked, underpaid and hungry people. We're in a community of people who have a desire to create, but have very little money. We watch people clutch the books they find in the "TAKE A BOOK" box to their chests as if it's the only book they own. It saddens us when someone says "We wanted to take that workshop, but we couldn't afford it."
Our workshops are not expensive. Five dollars for most, and $45 -$65 for those that are several sessions. We are not a non-profit, but we're not making a profit either. We really just want to be able to cover supply costs, and make sure that visiting artists get paid a stipend for their work.
If you can afford to donate $5, $10 or more to the scholarship fund, we'll make sure that the next needy person gets to make a mask, write a poem, make a painting, pen the first few pages of a memoir, collaborate with others to create a theatre piece - in short, celebrate wonder.

The Library

Our shelves are filled with literary journals, anthologies and collections of poetry and prose that are available for you to browse. It’s the perfect space to come and read, or set your sights on publication of your own work and gather information from other writers. Email us for hours. The library is always open during events.

The Paper Kite Press Shelves

All of our current titles are available for sale at the studio. Come and buy a book!
